LIECHTENSTEIN

During childhood trips with my parents and my sister to Switzerland or South Tyrol in Italy we passed Liechtenstein several times but never really stayed. Since rules agreed with my country point collection competitors required at least one overnight stay I happily convinced my wife to finally use a two-week-trip to Switzerland in winter 2017/2018 for a culinary skiing weekend in Liechtenstein. Gazing from its capital Vaduz to the snowy Rhine River Valley below one could already see more or les half of this tiny country being only 25 by 40 kilometers small. I very much like the story of the Russian Czar Alexander asking in 1967 Prince Hans of Liechtenstein whether the latter wanted to purchase Russian-owned Alaska. Prince Hans obviously abstained from it and missed the opportunity to pump up his territory from XXS to XXL.
While there seems to be no written proof of this occurrence one long-standing rumor about Liechtenstein is definitely true: It’s full of letterbox companies
