BELGIUM

When I first came to Brussels in 1991 it had a tremendous effect on me. For the first time ever I saw a lane entirely dedicated to eating modules frites and other seafood – the so-called “Fressgass”. Of course Pommes Frites were a popular staple from my early childhood on but only in Belgium I understood the elegance of the conversion of potatoes into Pommes Frites which somehow taste much much better than at home.  I adore Europe but I would wish that in the city of Bruegel and Magritte the bland EU office buildings in the Euro quarter would be at least as half as elegant as a bag of Pommes.
