GABON

When travelling to Gabon in early 2023 I was expecting many things – but not the absurd variety of Champagne brands offered in the dozens of French super markets. No wonder the just 2 million Gabonese seriously claim they are world record holders in drinking it. After eating and drinking out myself  quite a bit in Gabon – I definitely tend to believe them: Be it in the many restaurants in its capital Libreville or be it in a tiny beach shack on Cap Alanda in the north, really everybody seemed to drink Champagne (always paired with super yummy seafood, of course). Fortunately Gabon is not only a Garden of  Eden for drinkers but a Garden of Eden for wildlife enthusiasts, too: In the time of Gondwana, the supercontinent, it had been obviously quite normal that millions of animals roamed the beaches. When Man started to conquer Earth, he commenced with the easier accessible coastal areas, thus driving most animals gradually inland! One late afternoon in Loango National Park we headed for sundowners to the beach. There, a herd of elephants were frolicking in the sunset, as they have done every day, since eternity.
