ISRAEL
For me in particular, Israel is a country like no other. Liberality collides with tradition, candidness with suspicion, and lust for life, for good reason, with force. There is just one city in the world which owns its own syndrome. On my search for Via Dolorosa, I met a tourist carrying a camera and a heavy cross, claiming he caught the Jerusalem syndrome. It is a mental disturbance involving religious delusion and is triggered by visiting the city. It is said to affect around 100 visitors every year. Highly comforting: Christians, Muslims and Jews alike may be affected.
