LESOTHO
I could not imagine a more beautiful name for a country on earth; „Kingdom in the Sky“. I meet Likeleli sitting in front of her circular hut in the mountains near the village of Semonkong. Semonkong, I learned, means „place of smoke“ and refers to the waterfall of Maletsunyane which is dropping 200 Meeres to its base. The landscape around the canyon is gorgeous but life is hard. To make ends meet and feed several children Likeleli has to work hard as a substance farmer. The kid’s father had opted for an obviously easier life in town. I ask about his whwreabouts. She sadly gives a shrug – either in Maseru, Lesotho’s capital, or in Johannesburg, 550 kilometres away.
