MOZAMBIQUE

Mozambique is unique: Of course it’s Africa with everything I love so much. My train ride from Nampula east towards Malawi passing through quintessential African landscape with iconic rocks and colorful marketsellers flocking in hordes to my carriage in every little village the train was stopping is simply unforgettable.  But iMozambique is also bit of my beloved Brazil and a very long bit of my favorite ocean: Africa  spans over almost half of the East coast of Africa and incorporates a delicious mix of African Portuguese and Suaheli flavors. No wonder that the culinary range of Mozambique is long, too: from Indian curries, Brazilians Caipis to frango grelhado and prawns in spicy piri piri sauce. I love it.

Our trip from Maputo (in my top three of African capitals thanks to top food and top beaches just a short hop over Maputo bay away) in the south to the outlandishly beautiful Suaheli island of Ibo in the north took almost 2000 kilometers. Hanging around a few days in its old town, watching the afternoon sun plunging the ruins in golden light and sailing the next day to sand bars for swimming in turquoise waters teeming with great colorful fish, was one of my great travel experiences in Africa.
