SAN MARINO
I found San Marino, the fifth-smallest country on earth, kind of an odd travel destination. Located on a hill not far from the Adriatic Sea, every day hordes of bronzed tourists flock to it on day trips from the Teutonic Grill of nearby Rimini. Nowhere easier to conquer a new Country Point (sic!). During my trip in July 2018 there was not much else to do here except enjoying the views, eating ice cream, buying useless souvenirs and, rather bizarrely in country surrounded entirely by EU territory and its strict gun laws, foraging in dozens of gun shops. Come late afternoon – the fuss was over and all tourists went back to their beaches. Not me, since I always play by the rules. A Country Point is only a Country Point with an overnight stay!
Dinner for one – did not prove to be easy in an ocean of cheap pizza joints. I remembered the advice of a good friend: Always ask the pharmacist – he or she will always know which restaurant can (not) be recommended. No sooner said than done: Ritrovo del Lavoratori. It proved to be my best Truffle Fiorentina ever….
